We love the stories you share with us, so we thought it would be cool for you to get to know each of us a little bit more with our new blog series “Favorite Things”. Read all the way through for a special treat.
Of course, we start off with our very own boss of bosses, Danique.
Nique, as some of you may know her, owns our beloved shop, and purchased it in 2009 as Woolplay. As any entrepreneur knows, she does everything to run the shop with help from her lovely staff (ahem… ahem…), as well as teach several group and private classes each week. She is also in the process of opening Assemble just two doors away. Hence, she’s really, really, really busy. A knitter for over 10 years, she enjoys the social aspect of knitting the most, as well as the fact that knitting keeps the brain active at any age.
Favorite Yarn: “Anything Shibui – They lead the way for yarn mixing, and they have the most beautiful colors and textures….silk cloud is pure yarn perfection. I’m a huge fan of mohair….”
Project she would do over and over again: While not a sock person, she is a huge fan of Tin Can Knits’ Rye Socks. An easy, attractive pattern for all sizes.
Yarn Splurge: As owner of the shop, she no longer buys yarn on a regular basis for herself, however, if she did, she’ll most likely buy from a small indie dyer or some hand spun because she knows how hard the artisan worked to make their product.
Favorite Needles: Depends on what she is working on. – “I could go on forever about needles….just come in and get me started.” 😬
Indispensable tool: Addi needle gauge.
Favorite WIP Storage: Cute little fabric bags
Favorite Needle Storage: The Namaste needle case, no longer available unfortunately. But, we are working to get you something just as good!
Favorite pattern designer: Hannah Fettig aka Knitbot. “She started designing around the same time I started knitting and she has a really nice portfolio of tried and true patterns that are intuitively designed.”
Favorite reference book: Knitting Rules by Stephanie Pearl McPhee and Cast On, Bind Off by Leslie Ann Bestor
Our treat for you: During the month of September, receive a 10% discount on your purchase of an Addi needle gauge.
