Crystal’s Favorite Things

We love the stories you share with us, so we thought it would be cool for you to get to know each of us a little bit more with our blog series “Favorite Things”.

Today, you meet Crystal.

Crystal has been knitting for about 12 years and started working for Hooked after Danique bought the shop from Woolplay.  She teaches the sock, sweater, and Building Blocks project classes.  You can also catch her working in the shop, mostly on Sundays and a few random Thursday evenings.  Outside of Hooked, Crystal is a corporate finance auditor, which keeps her traveling quite a bit.  She loves the time she spends working on her project, which draws her into her own world to relax. Crystal also loves the instant connection with other knitters while she travels.

You can follow Crystal as GreenOctopus on Ravelry or Crystal Ward McErlain on Facebook, to keep abreast of her latest WIP.

Favorite knitting project: Stitch Surfer Socks by Louise Robert

Favorite Yarn: Manos del Uruguay Alegria sock yarn – “It’s durable, soft to the touch, and knits up beautifully!”

Project she would do over and over again: “I’m not the kind of knitter that enjoys making the same project multiple times. I like the challenge of something new and different.”

Yarn Splurge: “Cashmere. Every day.  It’s so luxurious and feels wonderful while wearing.”

Favorite Needles: Knitter’s Pride Karbonz circular

Indispensable tool: Crochet hook – “I use it to pick up dropped stitches!”

Favorite WIP Storage: “Small project bags are terrific” – she particularly likes the line of handmade bags made by Bird Leg Bags, which are available  at Hooked.

Favorite Needle Storage: A zipper pouch

Favorite pattern designer: “Stephen West for the flare and sparkle he brings to his designs”

Favorite reference book: “Anything that inspires you to learn more or try a new project.”
